Big Basin Vineyards was featured in a story by wine writer Laura Ness: "Rhone Master: Bradley Brown's "Idiot Savant" Syrahs" Delves into what got Bradley into winemaking and how his approach is evolving over the years. A good part of the article is taken from an interview with Bradley.

San Francisco Chronicle - Sunday July 17, 2011

Big Basin Vineyards was featured in two stories by Chronicle wine writer Jon Bonné: "A New Geography for Santa Cruz Mountains Wine" and "'08 Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir: Chronicle Recommends." The articles highlighted the top vineyards that Big Basin secures fruit from including Woodruff Family Vineyard, Lester Family Vineyard and Alfaro Family Vineyard. The second article specifically featured the 2008 Big Basin Alfaro Family Vineyard Pinot Noir - "In addition to his muscular Syrah, Bradley Brown makes a handful of dramatic Pinots, including this one sourced from the rising-star Alfaro site near Corralitos. Gorgeously tangy and fresh, with thyme and marmalade, darker leather and radiant Bing cherry. Pretty and palate-filling, even amid obvious oak tones." Jon did not have a chance to try our 2009 efforts from these vineyards, so we look forward to sending those to him.

Wine Getaways & Backcountry Wines - July, 2011

Big Basin Vineyards was featured in two articles by wine writer Deborah Passin: "Santa Cruz Mountain Wine Getaways" and "Big Basin Vineyards: The Wild West" The second story in particular provides an interesting and in-depth view of Big Basin Vineyards and winemaker Bradley Brown's passionate drive to create great wines.

"Does technology come at the expense of quality? For Bradley Brown of Big Basin Vineyards in Boulder Creek, the answer is yes ... and no. "There are different schools of thought," said the vineyard owner and winemaker. "High production vineyards spend a lot of money on fancy stuff to crank out large quantities of Advertisement decent wine. Small vineyards invest in technologies to do small-lot artisanal wines really well. For me, it's not about making wine faster or easier. But if a new approach makes a better wine, if it assists me in the process of having a more pure expression of the fruit without contaminants, we'll use it." "

San Francisco Chronicle - December 26th, 2008

Big Basin Vineyards was featured in an article on the Most Memorable Wines of 2008. The 2005 Rattlesnake Rock was selected as one of 20 "Unexpected Pleasures." After writer Jon Bonné tasted our Estate Syrah twice, he concluded that we had "...found a perfectly expressive site for it - and may have given the southern Santa Cruz Mountains a reputation for spectactular Syrah." Wine and Spirits Magazine - February 2008

Big Basin Vineyards is featured in the article "High-Country Syrah," a story about Syrah in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The photo below the headline is taken of winemaker Bradley Brown being 'flown' on top of Rattlesnake Rock by his wife and yoga instructor Samantha Shakti-Brown. The 'flying' is inspired by AcroYoga - a form of acrobatic partner yoga.

Wine Spectator Magazine - February 2008

Big Basin Vineyards was one of eleven California wineries considered "Highlights" of 2007. "Owner and winemaker Bradley Brown had guidance from Rhone specialist John Alban for his winery and vineyards, located in the rugged Santa Cruz Mountains. The wines are big and bold, but production is limited."
