Yoga and Wine - March 20th 10am-4pm
Once again Big Basin Winemaker Bradley Brown is teaming up with his wife and celebrated Yoga Teacher Samantha Shakti Brown to teach a memorable and rejuvinating day-long workshop at the winery and yoga studio. The morning will begin with a 2 hour asana class which will get you into the flow of this day and ground you on this spectacular land. This first class will be followed by a walk through the vineyard to our afternoon lunch and wine tasting location in the house overlooking the mountains. An Ayurvedic lunch will get your senses warmed up for the afternoon wine tasting. The end of the day will be capped by an in depth wine tasting seminar that will help novice and seasoned wine fans better connect with what they like in wine and better be able to describe to others these qualities. The wines will be presented in two flights - the first flight: 2007 Branciforte Ridge Pinot, 2007 Bald Mountain Pinot, 2007 Alfaro Pinot, and the second flight: 2007 Mandala Syrah, 2007 Odeon Syrah/Cabernet and the 2008 Syrah/Grenache. The workshop is $75 if paid by March 16 and $90 thereafter - click HERE for registration and payment information. |

Pinot Paradise Technical Session "Yeast Gone Wild in the Santa Cruz Mountains" - March 28th 9am - 12pm
This years Pinot Paradise Tech session focuses on the many forms of
yeast and their origins and explores both native strains unique to each
vineyard and winery as well as those grown for specific purpose and
inoculated into the must after crush. Lisa Vanderwater, the founder of Wine Lab will provide the keynote
address on this topic. Lisa brings her vast experience as a scientist
and researcher to the table. She will provide a sound scientific
perspective on the physiology of yeast strains and their potential to
influence the quality and complexity of wine. Bradley Brown, winemaker and grower from the award winning Big Basin
Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains, will address native yeasts. All
of the Pinot Noirs made by Mr. Brown are initially fermented on the
native yeast available to the fruit without inoculation. John Schumacher from the historic and award winning Hallcrest Vineyards
in the Santa Cruz Mountains will lead a tasting during the presentation
showcasing examples of wine made with "native yeast" as well as those
that have been inoculated with specific unique identified strains at
some point in the fermentation process.
