Vineyard and Region Information: The 2016 La Vida Bella is from a vineyard in Corralitos that is a stones throw from the Alfaro Family Vineyard where our 2016 Pinot is sourced from. This cool site just miles from Monterey Bay is perfect for producing a Pinot with minimal intervention and great natural acidity. The vineyard is farmed by Prudy Foxx (who also farms Lester Family Vineyard) and is planted to the Mt. Eden clone of Chardonnay.
Wine Notes: We barrel fermented with indigenous yeast as is our practice and then bottled it at about 15 months. No new oak was used, but the barrels were not entirely neutral either. While still a bit tight and youthful, this wine is still very expressive with classic Chardonnay character. It is vibrant and alive with acidity that is balanced with the wine. Possessing good mouthfeel and a beautiful finish, this a delight on the palate, with a finish to match. 90 cases produced. Wine Reviews: 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck “The 2016 Chardonnay Vida Bella comes from a site in the Santa Cruz Mountains and spent 15 months in neutral oak. Possessing plenty of reductive characteristics in its lemon curd, spice, pineapple cream, white flowers, and flinty minerality, this beauty is medium-bodied, concentrated, and vibrant on the palate. It reminds me of a Chevalier-Montrachet and needs 4-5 years of bottle age.”
91 Points, Antonio Galloni/Vinous “The 2016 Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard is a big wine built on phenolics and savoriness rather than on overt fruit. There is a real sense of mountain structure running through the wine. Powerful and ample in feel, with superb freshness, the 2016 offers terrific nuance as well as complexity."
