Here at Big Basin Vineyards, we are all about the unique character and terroir of our beloved Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. But world class vineyards are hardly all this area has to offer.
The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to some of the most pristine and beautiful natural scenery, featuring Old Growth Redwood forests, majestic waterfalls and breathtaking mountaintop views.
So, the next time you’re planning a wine tasting trip, consider making a day (or weekend) of it and visiting some of the other great local attractions.
The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to several state parks, ideal for camping, hiking and picnics.
Just up the road from Big Basin Vineyards is California’s oldest state park: Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This park was established in 1902 and has the largest stand of old growth coastal redwoods on the peninsula.
It offers easy access to picnic areas and campsites and an extensive network of hiking trails. With routes ranging from short, day hikes along streams and waterfalls to longer, more strenuous routes to neighboring Castle Rock State Park or out to the coast via Skyline to the Sea, there is something for every skill level.
The Santa Cruz Mountains also hosts a network of roads and trails ideal for biking. Enjoy the peaceful shade of the redwoods as you cruise the smooth, winding mountain roads or challenge yourself to reach the tops of the rugged mountain peaks- we promise the view will be worth it.
