Homestead

2016

“The 2016 Homestead is a good value and boasts a deep ruby/purple color, lots of blackberry and mulberry fruits, tons of spice and underbrush, medium body, and nicely integrated acidity. This delicious, forward, total charmer still has the freshness and vibrancy that’s the hallmark of this estate. The blend is 48% Syrah, 27% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 9% Carignane, and the rest Viognier, aged in neutral oak.”

“Big Basin’s 2016 Homestead is bold, juicy and super-expressive, with terrific fruit purity and tons textural resonance. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, spice and tobacco add layers of nuance throughout. Although not especially complex, the 2016 is super-delicious. Homestead is a blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, Carignane, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon and is Big Basin’s entry-level Rhone red.”

2015

“This blend of 43% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah, 14% Grenache, 14% Carignane and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon is a great look at what this cult producer is doing, but for much less price than other bottlings. Pure tangy fruit aromas of mulberry and condensed flower petals cut through the rustic earthy and gamy elements on the nose. Vibrant acidity explodes on the palate, which is full of red-currant, cranberry, parsley, sage and lavender flavors.”
