Big Basin Vineyards was born out of a love for wine and the rugged, ocean-cooled Santa Cruz Mountains. Our vineyards are planted on steep, windswept hillsides where French immigrants first grew wine grapes nearly 100 years ago. We are passionately dedicated to our vineyards, farm organically and keep yields very low. Our mission is to create wines that reveal the complex nuances of the vineyards that inspire them - cool climate, ocean-influenced, mountain vineyards.

BIG BASIN IN THE PRESS

Antonio Galloni's reviews of Central Coast wines were recently published in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Big Basin was featured prominently. Antonio had this to say, "Bradley Brown crafts gorgeous artisan wines from his vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey County....As good as these wines are – and they are often outstanding – my feeling is that Brown has just scratched the surface of his potential." Josh Raynolds of Tanzer's International Wine Cellar also just posted reviews of Central Coast wines where all of the Big Basin wines received 90+ scores. And most recently, our new Rhone wines were given some very nice reviews by Jeb Dunnuck in The Rhone Report. Read the reviews...

2011 HARVEST IN BARREL

A wet and cold Spring that featured record breaking rainfall in June delayed bud break and resulted in significant 'shatter' (poor fruit set). Flowering finally finished around July 12 in our estate vineyard - a week behind last year which was a late ripening year as well. Rain at the beginning of October created a tenuous situation at the grapes were not yet ripe. However, warm sunny weather followed for three weeks and allowed the grapes to get ripe before a November 3 rain. Follow Big Basin winemaker Bradley Brown on Twitter and get the latest...
